“I am so tired, I couldn’t possibly start exercising!”

Did you know that regular exercise actually INCREASES your overall energy? The irony! Studies show that people who consistently exercise on a weekly basis possess much higher energy levels than those who lead a sedentary lifestyle. Not only did they have better energy levels, but their health and appearance also improved in comparison with those who did no physical activity.

When I was at the lowest point of health, I had lost so much weight and I just couldn’t fathom doing anything. Simply going to the supermarket and back seemed to exhaust me. This really depressed me, as I had been an avid gym goer, and had been lifting weights for a little while. Fortunately, I was slowly able to go back to the gym and start lifting weights again, however I had to make some changes. Shorter sessions, less intensity and absolutely no lifting to failure.
My progress still came at a good rate because I wasn’t pushing my body beyond my inflammation threshold. And every week, I gained more and more energy. Not only that, but I started to look GOOD and feel AMAZING. If it wasn’t for my passion for weight training, I may have never started exercising at THAT point, and my health may have not improved the way it did.

And here’s why:
Our bodies are composed of thousands of cells. Within each of these cells, they contain a whole a physiological system, very similar to our bodies. A very important mechanism in our cells is the mitochondrion, which is the energy generator for each cell. The more exercise we perform, the more of these generators we produce and the more efficiently they carry out their job.

Metabolism increases, energy levels increase, and sometimes that can be the missing link between health and disease. So don’t be discouraged by low energy levels, just start with something simple yet very effective such as power walking for an hour several times a week, and build yourself up from there. Please don’t throw yourself in the deep end, this often causes burnout and metabolic disorders and injuries which can cause even more stubborn fat gain and disease.

If you’re looking to get started but don’t know how, a great way is to invest in an experienced personal trainer, who is accustomed to working with people within a wide spectrum of the fitness and health continuum. I highly recommend Ben Amevor, who has worked with a variety of different people from all walks of life and states of health.
