Healing Generational Curses

While this might not seem to directly have anything to do with health, I think it has a lot of impact on your health. I felt like writing a piece on how our upbringing and beliefs affect our current state of mind and health.

As far as I know it to mean, generational curses are more about repeating the same mistakes and negative behavioural patterns that your parents and their ancestors made. Their beliefs on how things should be aren’t always conducive. A lot of people, parents, elders and ancestors included were/are not self-aware. They don’t want to rock the boat or disrupt the status quo. Tradition, religion and culture have been passed down without really understanding or analysing whether this practice makes much sense. Who is this belief serving? Is it beneficial for anyone? Does it make anyone feel more aligned?

The litmus test for this is questioning whether you/they are happy. I mean, truly feeling joy in your heart because you are living in a way which corresponds with what you want, believe and want to see in the world.

I know that a lot of us were dictated to on how to be a ‘good person’. By people who don’t even know what being a ‘good person’ is. Because a lot of the time, the person giving these wonderful sermons was projecting. Were you ever told you were worthless/stupid/selfish/a failure/etc? 100% of the time the wonderful person delivering this kind message to you was projecting to you how THEY feel about THEMSELVES. Sometimes this is done in ignorance, because as I said before, these people deeply lack self-awareness. Sometimes this is done with the intent of manipulation, with the aim of turning you into a slave of their desires. Creating insecurities in somebody who is unaware of their greatness is a great way to keep them captive to your desires.

What we have to remember is that parents, teachers, elders etc are just as flawed and lost as we WERE (because we are woke now, baby). Some of our parents have never experienced self-awareness. They pass on their own anxieties and insecurities to their children, and just like that, you’ve inherited their illusions and views on how things are and how they should be.

Some parents are really committed to passing down their family’s generational curses, because they’ve never processed the pain in their own lives, and it makes them feel good to inflict onto their kids that which was once inflicted onto them. It can empower them by making them feel like their pain was normal, when they see themselves doing the same to you. It can also be a defense mechanism, where they protect themselves from feeling further pain. Maybe some really bad things happened to them here they felt deep pain, and they don’t want to feel like they were a victim, to avoid breaking down completely. This could be how they are holding themselves together.

However, this is does not mean YOU need to carry this burden or heal your elders. What it DOES mean, is that YOU are NOT them. You do not need to continue carrying these illusions or burdens forward. Recognise which beliefs, thoughts and expectations are authentically yours and which belong to them.

As a very wise man (my lovely partner) put it to me recently…generational curses could be another way of describing what’s in your DNA…your genetic history and makeup. The sum total and results of what your parents and ancestors did is all right there within you. But that doesn’t mean your being has to be expressed in that way. If you’re not happy with the way things are going, change. Because you can.

Some of you may be familiar with the term ‘epigenetics’. For those who aren’t, here’s a straightforward definition:

‘Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene expression (active versus inactive genes) that don’t involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence -a change in phenotype without a change in genotype -which in turn affects how cells read the genes.’

What this means is that, just because you are predisposed to becoming a certain way, it doesn’t mean that you have to follow that trajectory. YOUR life choices determine which genes you want to express. In other words, genetics loads the gun but the environment pulls the trigger.

The story YOU tell YOURSELF is what determines your destiny. This gives us hope that we can change the narrative, not just for ourselves, but for our future generations. We can be that catalyst in our ancestral chain, if you can stand to be honest with yourself, about yourself.

So, what to do?

When it comes to making any type of profound changes in your life, whether it be patterns of behaviour, the kind of ppl you meet, your health, success etc.. Nothing changes unless you decide on an emotional shift. You have to believe it’s written for you to receive that change.

When there is an emotional shift, everything changes. For the better. You have to believe that you can achieve alignment with your happiness and best possible life. If you don’t know what the means to you MEDITATE. Meditation is like a direct phone call with your inner being. Not the nagging voice of your mother, or the judgement voice of your teacher/friend etc. Really believe in manifesting the unadulterated life of your dreams, to the letter. Put some emotion into these thoughts.

Emotion = energy in motion.

That’s the key to unlocking everything.

Now is the time to set up effective boundaries for generational healing. Your life and destiny is your’s, and you can choose which reality you want for yourself. You can choose what you want to align with. What feels right to you. This may be a forever evolving destination, and that is absolutely FINE.
